What shall be the sign of your coming

The second coming of Christ is a subject that has been in much controversy since the beginning of the early church. What must be considered in this controversy is the authority of the scriptures and what they are conveying to us? The Lord is not the author this confusion so why has there been so much confusion about this subject? What we need to understand first is the two questions the disciples asked. What will be the SIGN of YOUR coming and the END of the AGE? Have we established our belief by the Spirit and Word of God as to what Jesus said the signs will be just before His coming? Matt 24:29-31 29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 "And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Jesus said that these are the signs that would precede His coming. This is when Jesus said all of God’s elect would be gathered unto Him. Shouldn’t we consider Christ to be the authority for the first resurrection or “rapture” as some like to call it? Should we believe that today’s prophets and teachers are more knowledgeable than Christ about the gathering of His elect? The definition of elect means chosen by God,
1a1) to obtain salvation through Christ
1a1a) Christians are called "chosen or elect" of God
1a2) the Messiah is called "elect", as appointed by God to the most exalted office conceivable
1a3) choice, select, i.e. the best of its kind or class, excellence preeminent: applied to certain individual Christians
—Strong's Greek & Hebrew Dictionary

Whether His return to gather us is pre or post trib really isn’t the most important question. When this event happens would become irrelevant to any who have not come to the end of their faith by their trials to stand in being the just. The word says “the just shall live by faith.” Gal 3:11-12 11 But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live by faith." 12 Yet the law is not of faith, but "the man who does them shall live by them." So, the real issue is, are we living by our faith. The first resurrection is for those who are “the just who lived by faith.” So how did these who are the just become the just? These became the just by having their faith proven so that they come to the end of their faith. 1 Peter 1:9-10 9 receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls. 10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
This is why the trying or proving of our faith is more precious than gold. It isn’t our faith that is more precious than gold, it is having it proven to us that is more precious than gold. By being proven We understand whether or not we are the just who are living by our faith. By being proven faithful in overcoming our temptations we can be in the resurrection of the just. If in our temptations that are to prove us, we yield to the temptations without repentance, we are not the just who live by faith. We have become the unjust who are walking by our unbelief. Always remember, to be of the promise given to Abraham we must be of faith. Gal 3:6-9 6 just as Abraham "believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." 7 Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.
The questions the disciples asked was “what will be the sign of your coming and the end of the age?” Christ did not say that the rebuilding or destruction of the earthly temple was a sign of His coming. What He said to the disciples was that every stone would be thrown down of the temple buildings they were observing. Matt 24:2 And Jesus said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down." The disciples’ questions about the sign of His coming and the end of the age were asked later as they sat at the Mount of Olives. We know from history that the last temple was destroyed in seventy AD. This could not have been a sign for His second coming because He is yet to come.
The two questions that the disciples asked Jesus as they sat privately were from Matt 24:3-4 "Tell us, when these things will be?” And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" 4 And Jesus answered and said to them: First Jesus warned them Matt 24:4 Take heed that no one deceives you. Pay close attention to detail because many are going to come in My name and deceive many. What could Jesus be warning us about that is going to be so deceptive to the many? He came first as the Messiah, and then He will return a second time apart from sin for salvation. Heb 9:28 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
We have been warned that there should appear false prophets and false christ’s. These deceivers would pretend to be of divine inspiration, and would demonstrate a spirit of prophecy. But we are being warned that it will all be a lie. What we must discern is that these seducers are such as had been settled teachers in the church? These had gained reputation and prominence, but have obscured the truth by their doctrines. This error and danger is much greater, because these are least suspected. Any unrecognized, false prophet in the midst of the congregation can do more harm than many avowed enemies out side of the congregation. Jesus isn’t telling the disciples when His return will be. He is warning them of the angels of light that are going to infiltrate the body of Christ to attempt to deceive them.
The Word does not tell us that there will be two separate advents to His glorious return. Scripture tells us there is a first resurrection of the just or as some like to call it the “rapture.” This first resurrection is most likely to be after the beast and false prophet are cast into the lake of fire. So, if we are going to agree with the Word, the rapture, as it is called, must happen at this time. Rev 19:20Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. Rev 20:4-5 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. After the beast and false prophet are cast into lake of fire we see the just or overcomers are now seated on the thrones. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. These scriptures in Rev. 19&20 are saying the same as 2thes.2:1-4 that says we will not be gathered unto the Lord until after we see the man of sin revealed. 2 Thess 2:3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, Again we see another warning to be alert so that no one deceives us. The Word of the living God says that we cannot be gathered unto the Lord UNTIL we see the man of sin revealed. The question that we might ask is, are there deceivers in our midst already?
After we see the first resurrection we see the thrones that the resurrected are seated upon. Could the thrones here be another reference to what Jesus had said to the disciples? Matt 19:28-29 28 So Jesus said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 "And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. These in the first resurrection are the enthroned judges of the Kingdom, the kings and priests of the ages to come. These will reign with Christ throughout the thousand year reign and in eternity. These have attained unto the incorruptible resurrection life by the power of God. They overcame temptation and have been crowned with eternal life. They are the fullness of the life of Christ being revealed to the nations of the earth.
Paul is giving us the same warning that Christ gave us. Let no one deceive you for the gathering is AFTER we see the man of sin revealed. If we are not gathered unto the Lord until after we see this revealing of the man of sin, then it must be after the great tribulation. ? 2 Thess 2:3 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, Isn’t this what Christ has said to us also that we would see the falling away or the love of many growing cold before His return.
Jesus has already warned us that false prophets will come to deceive the even the elect if it were possible. Matt 24:24-25 24 "For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 "See, I have told you beforehand. So, what could possibly be so great a devastation that would cause the love of many to grow cold? Matt 24:12-13 12 "And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 "But he who endures to the end shall be saved. What could be so devastating to them that they would deny Christ, their first love? Could it be because many have believed in a pre-trib gathering? These have not believed in what they must see come upon the earth before His return? So these were not prepared to stand against the evil by having their faith proven in testing beforehand. As we read God’s word we can understand what must take place on the earth prior to His return. Matt 24:5 "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. Matt 24:6-7 6 "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. "All these are the beginning of sorrows. Jesus warned us that these troubles were not the end but the beginning of sorrows. All of these sorrows have been going on since the early church. These sorrows are only: the pain of childbirth, travail pain, birth pangs, intolerable anguish, in reference to the dire calamities that precede the advent of Christ. Strong's Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. It is in these trials of birth pangs that bring forth the fullness of Christ with in us. It isn’t the beginning of sorrows that we are being prepared for. It is the great tribulation that follows these sorrows that will cause men’s hearts to fail for what they see coming upon the earth. Luke 21:25-28 26 "men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven will be shaken. 27 "Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 "Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."
After we have seen the beginning of sorrows we will then be given up to tribulation. What could be the possible cause of the hatred of the elect by all nations? They will be hated because of this gospel of truth that must be preached throughout the earth. The multitudes have believed in false doctrines and now they are angry when things didn’t happen according to their misguided belief. Matt 24:9-14 9 "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. 10 "And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 "Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 "And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 "But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. Jesus is saying when this gospel is preached in the entire world then the end will come. When the world is given the truth that Jesus set forth here to His disciples then the end will come. This has not been preached throughout the earth since the early church. What is being preached now is a watered down gospel to appease the flesh of man. Matt 24:15-22 15 "Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand), When we see the abomination or Idolatry that makes desolate. Eph 2:2-3 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. Paul is saying these are SONS who are disobedient to God. This disobedience is Idolatry. Walking after the flesh is the sin of Idolatry because it is the worshiping or obeying another god.
The ministry of Jesus ended after three and one half years. His crucifixion ended His life on Wednesday which is the middle of the week. Something to be considered is that Christ is not going to be ruling from the temple of Solomon when He comes. The Word tells us He is going to rule from the throne of David when He comes to establish His kingdom on earth. Luke 1:32-33 32 "He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 "And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end." The rebuilding of the temple of Solomon just might be a commandment of men. If the rebuilding of the temple is in error it would play into the deception of the possible pre-mature gathering unto the Lord. The Free Masons, the Mormons and the Holy Roman Empire have all attempted to reproduce the temple of Solomon. The last decree given for the temple to be rebuilt is the temple that was destroyed in seventy AD. There is no other decree given in scripture to rebuild the temple of Solomon. If there has been no decree given to rebuild the temple why do so many believe it will be rebuilt? Is it possible that we have misunderstood who represents the temple in the new covenant? ? Eph 2:19-22 19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. The body of Christ is this building fitly joined together that must grow into a holy temple. Do we see how all this division in the body has kept us from becoming the holy temple of our God?
Also, have we misunderstood where the blasphemy will be spoken from and who will be speaking it? 2 Thess 2:4 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Many believe that the Pope is the individual who has assumed this position and has spoken blasphemy against God. I cannot say that this is right or wrong just that there are those who hold to this belief. The Pope has taken a position that belongs to no man on this earth. The Word tells us that there have always been antichrists in the world. This is why the Pope might or could not be the man of sin only time will tell.
Remember, the earthly temple was destroyed in seventy AD. What or who is scripture identifying as the holy place today? Christians are supposed to be the temple of God. So is this where the abomination or Idolatry is going to be standing where it ought not? When those who become apostate kill the righteous elect, could this act be an abomination that makes the oppressors desolate? Yes, because when the righteous are killed the presence of God that was within them is no longer restraining evil. Therefore the Idolatry of these oppressors has made the world desolate. The Holy Spirit will no longer restrain evil through the sons of God. So now lawlessness is loosed to abound without hindrance. Has this weakened gospel that is being preached allowed the lawlessness of today to flourish unchecked?
When this “abomination that makes desolate” happens, won’t that which has restrained evil have been removed? Could it be that we have misunderstood how the restrainer of evil would be removed? Is the beginning of this abomination the many false prophets leading God’s people astray today? Is this setting the stage for the takeover by the system of Antichrists? Isn’t the abomination that makes desolate the many that will be offended and begin to kill the righteous elect? Idolatry is the sins of the flesh, immorality and the sins of the carnal mind which are enmity against God. Couldn’t this be the temple that the man of sin blasphemes from? Couldn’t those that defect become the antichrist’s temple because in this covenant our body is now the holy place of God? When these apostatize they receive the spirit of the antichrist and they now blaspheme from what was God’s temple. Why would this blasphemy be from the temple of God? These were once sanctified as the temple of God. Now, the spirit in the temple is of the antichrist. Could it be that the man of sin makes his agreement with those Christians whom he deceives into rebellion against God? Rev 19:20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image.
The Word says that there are few that find the straitght gate and narrow way that leads to life. Matt 7:13-14 13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Many are drawn into the broad way that leads to destruction. Those many will be deceived by the signs and wonders of the false christs and false prophets. Isn’t the Word saying many will be drawn in by the hopes of deliverance from their tribulations? Neither miracles nor great multitudes are the signs of a true belief. The Word of God must be the only measure of the true followers of Christ. The Word warns us that all the world wonders after the beast because of the miracles he performs. Should we take warning and think about just who are the multitudes who follow that wide road that leads to destruction? Isn’t Jesus telling us many who have been born again are the ones that take the road that doesn’t lead to life? It is those on the road to destruction who are in apostasy.
The Holy Roman Empire and the Spanish inquisition have already fit into this scenario of apostasy throughout the ages. Will one of these rise to the occasion again at the end of this age? No matter who this group will be when we see this abomination that makes desolate happening, we are told to flee to the mountains. It doesn’t matter who forms the antichrist following we have been warned to prepare for that time. 16 "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 "Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18 "And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 "But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 "And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 "For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 "And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened. Jesus is telling to us that the preaching of this gospel must go to the world first. Jesus did not say that every saint would be killed in this great tribulation. It will be those who have been appointed to preach in this time and have been appointed to seal their testimony. There have been many down through the ages that have had to choose not to worship the antichrists of their time.
Those who see these atrocities must flee to the mountains. We are not to go back and we are not to believe the lying prophets when they say Christ is here or there. Christ will not be in these places because He has not yet come. When He does return those who are alive and remain will see Him coming on the clouds with great power and glory. Matt 24:23-28 "Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There!' do not believe it. 24 "For false Christ’s and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect? Isn’t Jesus telling us not to believe those that tell us that He is in a secret place or that there is a secret rapture? We are being warned that this is going to happen and not to become deceived when it does. Could our believing in a secret rapture have become one of the deceptions that will cause the destruction of the many? Christ’s return will be announced by the blowing of the last trump. How could His revealing be construed as a secret if the trumpet announces His return? The Word does not say that only His will hear the trumpet. It says that only His will be resurrected or made complete with all of His elect when it does sound.
Who are the elect of God? If we are not the elect then who are the Saints of God? The “called out” or “gathered together” are the elect or church by the same definition. We know that all of this prophecy has not been fulfilled because Christ has not returned for those in Israel’s elect. 25 "See, I have told you beforehand. 26 "Therefore if they say to you, 'Look, He is in the desert!' do not go out; or 'Look, He is in the inner rooms!' do not believe it. 27 "For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 "For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together. Christ is telling us to us before we see all of this happening prepare to discern the spirits of these false prophets and false christ’s so we don’t fall prey to their deceptions. Matt 24:23-28 "Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There!' do not believe it. 24 "For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
Jesus is telling us that His return will be as the lightning flashes from the east to the west. We are being told make no mistake. The entire world will know when I return because they will hear the trumpet and see the son of man coming on the clouds. Matt 24:30-31 30 "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 "And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
All those in Christ have been grafted into the commonwealth of Israel. All Israel that are of faith are Abraham’s seed and are God’s elect. Romans 11:17-24 17 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, 18 do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you. 19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in." 20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. 22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. 23 And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree? Now because we have become part of the commonwealth of Israel the Gentiles are included in the Elect. If we separate Israel of today from Israel of yesterday we are saying that we are not of the same olive tree. Did we get grafted in or not? Eph 2:11-13 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh--who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands-- 12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Does this say that we are the elect or not? If we are part of the elect of God then this applies to the grated in as well because all now have the same election. Is it fear or pride that has created this out of sequence gathering unto the Lord? When we say the “Gentile Church” will be removed but Israel will be left to suffer the tribulation. Aren’t we cutting ourselves out of the olive tree that we were grafted into? Of course we are because there isn’t a Gentile Church, just Israel. Romans 11:25 25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. Where does the fullness of the Gentiles come into? ISRAEL! Romans 11:26-27 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; 27 For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins." Luke 1:32-33 32 "He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 "And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end." There is only one Israel and it is made up of Jews and Gentiles. Gal 3:28-29 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
When will this gathering or rapture happen according to Jesus, immediately after the tribulation of those days they will see the sign of the son of man coming? What will be the signs just before His coming? The sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light. Jesus said that the great tribulation must take place before the sun is darkened and the moon would not give its light.
Paul is telling us the exact same words. At the last trump we will be changed and gathered from heaven and earth unto Christ. 1 Cor 15:51-53 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed-- 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. If this is what the Word is telling us how can this gathering unto the Lord happen any other time or in a secret manner?
Are we to believe that the resurrection or rapture is secret and in a different manner than is specified in the Word of God? Should we believe that the inspired word of God is incorrect concerning the resurrection of the just? Are we to believe that the elect of today will be made complete in a secret rapture without all of God’s elect from Abraham to the second advent of Christ? Should we believe this hypocrisy that we are somehow more special today than all of His other elect of yesterday and tomorrow? God forbid that we could become so arrogant! God forbid that we would assume to take this highest honor to ourselves and have less regard for the rest of God’s chosen elect of Israel. We, who have been grafted into Israel, must be careful to not become so high minded that we get cut off as well.
Look at what Christ is telling the disciples next. Matt 24:32-35 32 "Now learn this parable from the fig tree: This parable is not a reference to Israel becoming a Nation. Jesus is telling us that we know by the fig tree budding that summer is near. When you see all of these words spoken here, come to pass, “you” who see these atrocities happen before your eyes know that the end is at hand. When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 "So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near--at the doors! 34 "Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. What generation is He referencing in this discourse? The generation of elect that sees these things spoken here come to pass, these must endure in faith to the end to be saved. Matt 10:21-23 21 "Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. 22 "And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. 23 "When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. Just like recognizing summer is near by the budding of trees, when you see these things start to take place prepare because I have forewarned you of what must happen to bring the end.
Is the problem that we don’t believe that we could make it through this great tribulation that has propagated this false pre-trib rapture? If fear is why we believe this, then we do not know our God. Continuing in the Word of God will reveal to us that we do not need to fear. Rev 7:1-4 After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree. Why are these angels held from performing their destruction upon the earth? 2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four

The second coming of Christ is a subject that has been in much controversy since the beginning of the early church. What must be considered in this controversy is the authority of the scriptures and what they are conveying to us? The Lord is not the author this confusion so why has there been so much confusion about this subject?
