I am amazed by the transition that has taken place in our teachings that have changed the mystery of the hope of glory from “Christ in you” to our meager accomplishments after our fleshly mind. We have exchanged the hope of glory for our own purpose-driven life built upon our fleshly passions and desires. “Have we become so foolish that having begun in the Spirit that we now believe we will be made perfect by the flesh?”

"Which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost?" I have never heard anyone say to a new convert “before you agree to be born again count the cost first.” I agree that it costs little if anything to be a mere outward Christian. All we have to do is to attend a place of worship on Sunday. For the most part we would have gone as far as thousands around us ever go in their pursuit of His perfection within. Many do we not count the cost to be made in His image because according to Christ “there are few who find it.” Few who find the way into life.

We require adversity not prosperity to educate us into the fulfilling of our high calling just as those who have gone before us. We also are in need of enabling grace and only find its increased strength in adversity. Like our Lord, we have to be made perfect through suffering; and if those who have gone before us had not suffered they would not have completed the calling which had been given them to endure, which is to suffer with Christ.

The second coming of Christ is a subject that has been in much controversy since the beginning of the early church.
